1. Diner For One - a short English comedy sketch recorded in its original language by the German TV station, NDR in the 1960s. The sketch is relatively unknown in this country, but is cult viewing every New Year's Eve throughout Germany.
2. Feuerzangenbowle - a red wine and rum punch.
3. Bleigiessen - the art of fortune telling by dropping molten lead into cold water and interpreting the shape it forms when it hardens.
4. Feuerwerk - Anyone who's anyone has fireworks at New Year. It is the only day of the year that you do not need a permit to buy them! As well as large displays, individuals set fireworks off wherever they can find room. Bangers are also a favourite, but only after 6pm.
